History of Block Panchayat

History of Tirurangadi Block Panchayat

Tirurangadi is a historically significant region of Malappuram District, known for its rich cultural heritage and important role in the history of Malabar. The region has witnessed several significant historical events, including the Battle of Tirurangadi (1790) and the Malabar Rebellion of 1921.

Tirurangadi Block was established as a Revenue Block in 1957. With the introduction of the decentralised Panchayati Raj system in Kerala, the present Tirurangadi Block Panchayat was formed in 1995.

The Block Panchayat comprises five Grama Panchayats—Thenhippalam, Vallikkunnu, Munniyur, Nannambra and Peruvallur. Since its formation, the Block Panchayat has been actively contributing to rural development, social welfare, infrastructure development and decentralised planning, working towards the overall development and well-being of the people of the region.
